Even though Iceland has a spectacular landscape and you will want to explore as many things in short time as you can, you still have to eat. If your flight is coming to Iceland during nighttime you will probably not have many places to eat out in downtown Reykjavík at that time. However there are some grocery stores that are open 24/7.
The grocery store chain named 10-11 has stores in Barónsstígur 4 and Austurstræti 17 that are open all hours. Other grocery store chain named Nettó has a store that is located at the Grandi district. Grandi is in 3 minutes driving distance from downtown Reykjavík. Nettó has a wider selection than 10-11 and lower prices. Another grocery store chain that has some stores that are open 24/7 is Hagkaup. Hagkaup has 3 stores in the Reykjavik area that are open around the clock. These stores are located in 5-10 minutes driving distance from down town and are easily accessible with a rental car. They have greater variety of products than both 10-11 and Nettó.
If you are doing shopping during the day you have some cheaper options than the stores mentioned before. Bónus is the cheapest grocery store chain in Iceland followed by Krónan that is slightly more expensive. Bónus is located in two places downtown Reykjavík. One store is located on Hallveigarstígur and the other store is located on Laugavegur. Krónan is located at Grandi and has a bit wider selection than the Bónus stores that are located downtown.
If you are going to rent a car with Lagoon Car Rental and drive around Iceland you will still be able to do grocery shopping at reasonable prices. Bónus and Krónan are located in most of the major towns around Iceland. The price of products in Bónus stores is same in every Bónus store in the country and the same goes for Krónan.
